Satellite versus Cable
Pros and cons :

The big competition is basically come down to satellite versus cable. The Federal Communications Commission is requiring all TV stations to program using digital signals and this will be the end of analog signals. No longer will you be able to buy a TV and just use your antenna. Analog TV (using an antenna) is supposed to end at exactly midnight Dec. 31, 2006.

The digital error has not just come; it's taken over and in a big way.

So, to watch TV, you either need satellite or cable. Satellite versus cable.

There are people who have a problem with certain cable companies and have decided not to use them because they do not like the local cable company. There are people who can not watch their soccer games, baseball games, football games, or foreign shows that can only be seen on satellite. Some people prefer cable TV and will not have it any other way.

It basically comes down to what you want, what you need, and what you are willing to pay. In the column to the right you will see some of the pros and some of the cons for getting a dish/satellite TV versus using cable TV.

  • Pros for cable - >
  • Cable TV has many other options that can come with it: using the Internet, or using a phone through the cable line
  • Cable will work no matter sun or rain, cloudy or stormy.
  • Most cable companies now offer great service packages for the first year ($99 for TV,Internet, and phone service).
  • Cable doesn't rely on satellites and/or your dish working properly.
  • Cable offers you uninterrupted music channels to listen to with no commercials.
  • Satellite/dish TV can lose the signal if you have very bad weather or there is a sun storm or satellite problem.
  • Cons for using cable - >
  • After the first year (if you get a package deal), your rates will go up.
  • You are limited to a certain amount of channels and some sports and other programming is sometimes blocked.
  • Sometimes the cable companies do an update and the line is down or a storm may disrupt the lines.
